What should I put into my Career Portfolio?

Last updated on 26 Oct, 2023

You should make it a habit to save any achievements, credentials, awards, recognitions, coursework, projects, writing samples, reports, pictures or videos of volunteering, demonstrating skills, participating in extracurricular activities, or anything else you’re proud of and feel shows off what people should know about you as a professional. A good idea is to also search other CareerPrepped users and look at their portfolios for ideas and inspiration. Check out Skill Builder Develop a Career Portfolio to learn how to develop an effective career portfolio.

Here are some questions to help you pick the right evidence to support your claimed skills:

  • How does the evidence you choose show your skills?

  • What was the situation when the evidence happened?

  • What were you trying to accomplish?

  • What was the result?

  • How did you contribute?

  • Who else was involved in the situation?
