Setting up your Career Site establishes your online professional identity in the CareerPrepped community so that you can start connecting with others. It also lets you get started on presenting yourself professionally online – a critical skill for lifelong career success.

Your Career Site should always evolve but here are some easy tips to get started...

  • Upload a quality headshot photo of yourself that’s clear and well-lit (See what kind of photo should I use for my Career Site). Want to make your profile picture stand out? Check out this free, cool tool to create a unique profile picture for your Career Site.
  • Upload a nice background image that fits your personality or brand - search royalty free images at www.unsplash.com for a high resolution background image to use or use your own!
  • Fill out the “My Work Situation” information in your Career Site
  • Share a bit about yourself in the "About" section. If you don't know what to write, see the examples provided when you're editing your About section or use this template:

I'm [insert your first name], a [insert your current situation such as student, soon-to-be graduate, aspiring fashion designer, etc.]. Passionate about [insert your interests], I'm excited to explore opportunities in [insert career area or industry]. With a strong drive to achieve [insert your aspirational goals], I'm committed to making a positive impact throughout my career journey.

  • Add at least five skills to the “Skills” section to get started that you feel are your strengths (the more the better!)
  • Fill out the “Education” section with what best reflects your past and/or current education
  • Add experiences to your experience section over time (Volunteering, part-time or full-time work, internships, apprenticeships, freelance, personal projects, entrepreneurial endeavors, or even "side hustles" like pet sitting, running your own podcast, blogging, selling your art or crafts, washing cars or even mowing lawns. Your work experiences aren't just what you get paid for; they are the experiences you have where you've practiced important skills and it all matters and counts!
